In the past, many experts gave an analogy to describe the undertaking of a change initiative in a large organization. They said it was like turning a large ocean liner at sea. The process was known to be slow at best. However, in today's fast pace of change world that will not work. To be successful, organizations must mobilize staff and resources quickly.
Leaders should utilize the tools of communication, training and rewards to rapidly mobilize the group or organization toward a future state. Strategically utilized, the tools can help cut through the outside noise and distractions to get employees on the path toward future state.
Rapid mobilization of a small or large group requires collective behaviors such as a keen awareness of the road map to the future state, a shared mindset to take on the venture, a sense of urgency and trust in each other and leadership to be there for one another throughout the journey. The roadmap may look like the following:
Our culture values individual achievement
Present technology outdated
No systems to track customer behavior
Employees not trained to cross sell
Team training and development
New technology platforms reviewed
Framework for customer database started
Sales training initiated
Teams collaborate to meet objectives
New technology implemented
Customer data gathered and stored
Cross selling generates significant revenues
